Unhappy

Nightmares of work.

I am a catcher/packer at a company that makes the cartons and cups for fast food and restaurants. I bid for another position as an operator(fixing machines) and got it but I don't have a permanent spot as an operator. Thus, I only fill in as operator when needed. I still catch and pack. I've been trained as operator six months ago but never did the job. I didn't have the slightest clue to what I'm doing because I had poor training. The last four weeks I've been filling in as operator and I've been learning as I go. I didn't know anything til I started to do the job. I have no confidence, lack of knowledge, and I'm very hard on myself. I expect myself to be good only at four weeks. There a guys doing the jobs for years and they still have trouble. Everyday I would dream about work because of what has happened that day or because I'm worried about the next day. It's taking a toll on my health. I don't get the rest I need. Because I'm still new at this, I would miss out on my breaks at work. I'll work 8 hours with no breaks. Sometimes even 12 hours. I've since lost 8 pounds. I feel exhausted. I deprive myself of food so much that when I do eat, I feel sick and want to throw up. I want to do so much as an operator. Majority of the operators are lazy, careless, selfish, and is often not a team player. I wanted to be an operator to break that cycle and plus the pay is better. One good thing is that I'm so busy my days go by so much faster. The bad part is I feel like I suck at it. I just want to leave work at work and enjoy myself when I'm home. I wish the nighmares would go away. By the way, majority of the operators are male and I'm female, under 100lbs., and 4ft 11 1/2 inches. I do struggle because of my height and strength. I have to work twice as hard and fast. Though being an operator is tough, I enjoy the challenge and I hope to have a permanent spot. It will be boring going back to catcher/packer.

Hope you get the job. Or at least keep it as a permanent position. Good to see more females able to fix machines. I work in a similar atmosphere. I am a technician. I work primarily on large duplex printers and card embossers. We have one female tech. So maybe a few more wouldn't help. Good luck, don't stress yourself out. And have that confidence.

Thank you thavarin. I'm going to try to be more relaxed and not worry too much. The hardest part is dealing with the female catchers in my zone. They can be real pain and when they know you're new, they take advantage of you. I relieve them for break and they would take long ones. They complain about every little thing. Anyways, I just have to relax and not worry about pleasing people to much. No matter what I do, they still not satisfied and will say stuff behind my back.
