the output, this is you how make it into a quicktime or swf file for preview and viewing.
better late than never huh guys, well i think this will be my last real chapter, but i will be around to post on the forum as usual and answer any questions you might all have. maybe if there is enough interest i will go into detail on masking/matte/alpha channels. if you don't know what any of that stuff is your better off not knowing, if you do know and want to know more ask away, and i will do my bets to help answer them for you. now onto the class.
lets start with opening your project. in after effects choose open and find your file, or just double click on your project file. once open, we want to go in and make sure our file is set to the right length. our animation here is 4 seconds long. if you recall in the last lesson all we did was animate three sets of elements. all in all it should resolve around four seconds. so to do this we hit "ctrl +k" which brings up this dialog.
where the red box is, go ahead and change it so it's like the picture. this will make your animation 4 seconds long. next we want to make sure our work space is set to where we need it to be. which is the whole timeline. hit the "home" key this puts the time slider at zero.
now hit the "b" key the sets your workspace start area. test it out. move the slider ahead a second and hit "b" again see how it moves, good. now set it at the start again.
next we set the end space. hit the "end" key on your keyboard. the slider should now be at the end of your work space. hit the "n" key. this will now set your work space end. this is actually really handy. sometimes you only want to preview a section of your animation. what the "workspace" does is tell after effects to only "render" or preview that section. okay your work space should now look like this.
if it looks like this,
then you just need to go back and reset your work area again. now lets start to render this suka! (render is what you call the final output of your animation how we make it into a movie) okay hit "ctrl+m" this will give you a render dialog. looks like this.
looks scary but it really isn't.
hit the first drop down triangle and set it to best. should look like the image above.
next we want to set our output. for this sample we will make a quicklime file. so click here, on my picture it says lossless but your could be something different.
if you did it right you should see this.
where it says format click the drop down and choose quicklime, then click on format options like in the picture below.
you should now have a popup that looks like this,
go ahead and change the quicktime compression type to h264. and hit ok. then on the module output setting hit ok again.
you should now look something like this.
where it says output to, hit your file name.
this tells after effects where to save your movie. drop it in a place thats easy to find. and hit render.
thats it! after effects will ring when it's done. congrats! see that wasn't really hard at all was it. i will attach my file for those of you who do not have a file to use or just for you to see and compare to your own. if you have any questions just post them. and post your animations also. good luck everyone.
